Dhurandhar 2 enters ₹1,000 crore club in record time
Aditya Dhar’s spy-action sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge has delivered one of the most staggering box office performances in the history of Hindi cinema. Released on March 19 to coincide with Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and Eid al-Fitr, the film, starring Ranveer Singh, had amassed ₹805.32 crore gross in India with domestic net collections at ₹674.17 crore as of Day 8.
Its worldwide total stood at ₹1,067.24 crore by that point, making it the eighth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. By Day 9 on March 27, the total domestic net had reached ₹689.23 crore.
The film broke into the ₹1,000 crore club at the worldwide box office in just seven days, becoming the joint-fastest Indian film ever to achieve that feat. It also became the fastest film ever to cross ₹500 crore net in Hindi, reaching that milestone in six days, and made the Dhurandhar franchise the only Indian franchise to have both films cross ₹1,000 crore at the worldwide box office.
The film also set records in a single language. It broke the biggest single-day collection in a single Indian language — earning approximately ₹107 crore net — surpassing RRR’s ₹103 crore Telugu net opening day. It also broke Pushpa 2: The Rule’s Hindi ₹425 crore nett first-week collection record.
The sequel’s performance in international markets has been equally historic. Deadline Hollywood reported a 5-day global opening of $81 million (approximately ₹761 crore), making it the second-biggest global opening ever for an Indian title behind Pushpa 2: The Rule’s $97.9 million, and the biggest ever for a Bollywood (Hindi-language) film. In North America, the film posted a $10 million three-day weekend and $14 million over five days at 987 sites, a record opening for a Bollywood film ahead of Pathaan’s $6.9 million three-day debut in 2023.
Through Day 8, Dhurandhar 2’s gross earnings in North America stood at an estimated $16.49 million, putting it on course to surpass the $20.65 million lifetime record set by the first Dhurandhar, which would make it the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever in that market. In the UK, the film collected $3.3 million in just six days.
The film was denied a theatrical run in GCC countries due to censorship concerns over its themes. Trade estimates suggested Dhurandhar 2 may have lost around ₹50 crore from the Gulf during its opening weekend alone, which analysts cited as the primary reason it fell short of Pushpa 2’s worldwide opening weekend record.
The sequel is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. Its ensemble cast includes R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun among others.
