Kareena Kapoor talks expressive faces and pastel sarees at Daayra event
Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan turned heads at the trailer launch event for her upcoming film ‘Daayra’ in Mumbai, stepping out in a soft, pastel-hued lehariya-print chiffon saree as she posed alongside co-star Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The lightweight saree featured a mix of pastel shades, including yellow, turquoise, seafoam green and blush pink, paired with a matching blouse. Kareena kept her accessories understated, opting for a delicate double-layered diamond choker and matching stud earrings to let the saree’s soft colour palette stand out. The look drew comparisons online to a similar Leheriya saree worn by her sister, Karisma Kapoor, in the 2001 film ‘Zubeidaa’, with fans quickly pointing out the resemblance.
At the event, which was also attended by writer Gulzar and director Meghna Gulzar, Kareena spoke about how expressive she had been during the film’s earlier trailer launch, joking that she had given a hundred expressions there simply because her role in the film did not allow for it. She explained that since she plays a police officer in the film who spends much of her screen time interviewing other characters across a table, the camera stayed largely on her face while she had to keep her famously expressive reactions in check, something she said director Meghna Gulzar was firm about maintaining throughout the shoot.
‘Daayra’ is an investigative crime thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar, in which Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran’s DCP Raman. Inspired by true events, the film explores themes of juvenile crime, public outrage and the complex moral boundaries between law, guilt and justice. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 18.
