Movie Review: Mr. & Mrs. Mahi falls short of expectations
“Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” is a romantic sports drama that fails to hit the mark despite its promising premise. The film, directed by Sharan Sharma and starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, tries to weave a tale of love and cricket, but it ultimately succumbs to predictable storytelling and underwhelming performances.
The film’s biggest issue is its pacing, which is slow and plodding, making it difficult to stay engaged. The plot is overly simplistic and lacks any real tension or conflict, leading to a sense of monotony. The characters, too, are underdeveloped and lack depth, making it hard to connect with them on an emotional level.
Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, both talented actors, struggle to elevate the material. Rao’s performance is particularly affected by the weak script, which fails to provide him with any real opportunities to showcase his range. Kapoor fares slightly better, but her character is so one-dimensional that it’s hard to see her as anything more than a prop to advance the plot.
The film’s technical aspects are also subpar. The music, while not entirely forgettable, fails to leave a lasting impression. The cinematography is adequate, but the editing is clumsy and often disrupts the flow of the narrative.
Overall, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” is a disappointing film that fails to deliver on its promise. Despite its interesting premise, it falls short due to poor storytelling, underwhelming performances, and subpar technical aspects.
