Shruti Haasan has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring the legendary Rajinikanth. The announcement was made on August 30, 2024, when Kanagaraj shared a character poster featuring Haasan in the role of Preethi. The poster showcases her holding a shovel, dressed in a simple suit, with a serious expression, further heightening the anticipation surrounding the film.
This casting marks Haasan’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth, a significant milestone in her career. Expressing her excitement, she responded to Kanagaraj’s welcome tweet, stating, “Thank you, Lokesh! Super stoked to be a part of this”. The film’s director also expressed his enthusiasm, indicating that the addition of Haasan to the cast is a major boost for the project.
Coolie is shaping up to be a star-studded affair, featuring a lineup that includes Nagarjuna, who was recently announced as Simon, and Soubin Shahir, among others. The film is being produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner and is expected to be a big-budget production. While the release date remains unconfirmed, it is anticipated for summer 2025.
There are also rumors of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan potentially making a cameo in the film, which would mark a reunion with Rajinikanth after 30 years since their last collaboration in Aatank Hi Aatank. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed.
